Granbury High School MCJROTC has been selected as a Naval Honor School for the 10th consecutive year.
The GHS Battalion has received the Marine Corps Reserve Association (MCRA) Outstanding Unit Award for the third year running. This award is the highest recognition an MCJROTC unit can receive, and only four are given out worldwide each year. It is a great honor for GHS, as this is only the third time in the program's 23-year history that they have earned this prestigious designation.
The Marine Corps Reserve Association (MCRA) Award is granted to the best MCJROTC unit in each region, and the GHS MCJROTC was chosen as the best program among over 270 JROTC programs worldwide. Additionally, the Granbury Battalion has been recognized as a Naval Honor School for ten consecutive years by the Commanding General of Marine Corps Training and Education Command. The school's Marine Corps JROTC program was in the top 10 percent of all 70 MCJROTC programs in Region 5. To qualify for these awards, various factors are considered, such as community service hours, cadet involvement in school activities and clubs, academic and scholarship awards, public affairs events, and team accomplishments.
This prestigious recognition allows the GHS MCJROTC to nominate candidates directly to the U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Air Force Academy, and the Military Academy at West Point. Seniors in the GHS JROTC program can benefit from letters of recommendation from 1stSgt and LtCol Scott Casey that are equivalent to those from state senators or congressmen.
The success of the Battalion was due to the active participation of cadets and their impressive achievements. Four teams from GHS MCJROTC gained state and national recognition by winning the National JROTC Rifle Championship, competing and placing in the Robotics World and Nationals, taking part in the National Physical Fitness competition, the Orienteering team winning State, and the Academics Team placing at the National Level during the JROTC Leadership & Academic Bowl in Washington D.C. this summer. Other notable accomplishments from the 2022-23 school year include one senior who was accepted to a Military Service Academy, eight seniors who enlisted in the US Armed Forces, and seven seniors who are attending college. Additionally, the 2023 Senior JROTC class consisting of 21 cadets received over 2.1 million dollars in scholarship funds.
