Granbury Rifle Team Wins First Home Rifle Match

The Granbury Marine Corps JROTC rifle team won first place at the Comanche Peak Cup match, held on October 11-14, 2023, at Granbury High School. The event saw over 130 athletes from Colorado, Oklahoma, and Texas compete against each other, but the Granbury MCJROTC Gold team consisting of Viola Allen, Kameron Wells, Kennedy Wells, and Cadince McGrath came out on top with a score of 2346-157x. The Granbury MCJROTC Purple team placed 3rd, team members included Julia Czernik, Ainsley Milligan, Mataya Turner, and Caylynn Price.  Lastly, the Granbury MCJROTC Team White consisting of an all-freshman team finished seventh.  Team members were Ethan Erwin, Lilly Sojourner, Renee Sermarini, and Emma Wipff.

During the qualification match, Allen broke the national MCJROTC record and the U17 age group record for standing, achieving a perfect score of 200 points and 19x, which means that all her shots were above 10.2 except for one.

Viola Allen led the pack in qualification with a score of 595, followed by Kameron Wells with a score of 589, securing third place. The top performers, including Allen, Kameron Wells, Kennedy Wells, and Czernik, advanced to the precision finals, where Kameron Wells won the bronze medal.

This match was just the beginning of the long road to the 7th straight National Championship title that Granbury MCJROTC hopes to earn this March at JROTC Nationals. The Pirates will battle American Legion 295 virtually in the third Orion National Air Rifle League Match this Thursday afternoon in their quest for further glory.
