November Board Meeting Student Achievement Spotlights

At last night’s board meeting, the following were recognized with Student Achievement Spotlights:

• Veterans Day Essay Contest Campus Winners were announced by Julia Pannell and the Friends of Memorial Lane. With a collection of Veterans in attendance, students were recognized for their outstanding essays at the meeting. Over 800 essays were written by GISD middle school and high school students. This year’s essay topic was “What Veterans Day Means to Me.” The campus winners were:

-Granbury High School: Quinn King

-STARS: Cherri Becker

-Acton Middle School: Julie Benton

-Granbury Middle School: Ryan Valdez

-Cadet Winner: 2nd Lt. Ainsley Milligan

*Quinn King was honored as the district-wide winner of the Veterans Day Essay Contest.

 

• Granbury HS DECA Officers were recognized for National DECA Month. DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges around the globe. GHS DECA Officers are:

VP of Membership – Anna Quinn

VP of Marketing – Kylee Upchurch

VP of Competitions – Kaylee Connor

• Granbury High School MCJROTC Cadet Viola Allen set a national record in the Marine Corps Junior Reserve Officer’s Training Corps during the Comanche Peak Three-Position Air Rifle Excellence-In-Competition Cup Match on October 11. Allen competed in the 20 Shots Standing event in the precision category and earned a perfect score of 200 points and 19x which indicates all but one shot was above 10.2 from the standing position.

 

• Shottenkirk Senior of the Month: Kiley Dova. Shottenkirk Automotive Group awarded Kiley with a $500 scholarship. Kiley plans to major in English and Education at Tarleton State University and follow in her mother’s footsteps of becoming an educator. Kiley is involved with Junior Optimist Club, Student Leadership Committee, The Stowaways Drill Team, Reach, Lakeside Student Leadership and UIL Social Studies.
