Allyson McCabe named TGCA Volleyball All-State

Lady Pirate Volleyball’s Allyson McCabe was named All-State by the Texas Girls Coaches Association for the 2023 season.

McCabe, a junior setter, was also named District 5-5A First Team All-District, Academic All-District and selected to the AVCA Phenom Watch List. During her junior season, McCabe registered 991 assists (7.5 assists per set), 476 digs, 35 aces and 9 blocks. She also surpassed 1,000 career assists.

“This is a tremendous honor for Allyson and I’m so proud of her for earning all-state,” said head coach Des Shahan. “Last year Allyson was a DS for our team behind a senior setter, so this is her first year of setting on varsity. We started the season running a 6-2, but quickly realized that we needed her on the court. She is a great leader on and off the court and she pushes all of her teammates to be the best that they can be. She is not the tallest, so she has busted her butt to become a threat at the net as well as leading our offense. If we do not have her on the court, we would not survive because she is the glue to our team.”

McCabe helped lead the Lady Pirates to the UIL Class 5A Playoffs and advanced to the second round after a bi-district win over Arlington Heights.
