Granbury ISD officially announced on December 11 the appointment of Bobby Allison as the head football coach and boy’s athletic coordinator at Granbury High School. Allison comes to Granbury after 10 years at Northwest High School, serving as the assistant head coach, defensive coordinator, and recruiting coordinator since 2014.
Allison takes over for Sonny Galindo, who served as the interim head coach for the 2023 season. Allison has 20 years of experience as a football coach, with stops at Odessa, Sharpstown, Levelland, San Angelo Central and Northwest High School before coming to Granbury. He also spent 2 seasons as the Special Teams Coordinator at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
“I’d like to thank Dr. Jeremy Glenn and the Granbury ISD Board of Trustees for this opportunity to become the head coach of the Granbury Pirates. I am so thankful and excited to come to Granbury and lead these great young men,” Allison said. “I look forward to working with a tremendous staff and school district and being involved in this outstanding community.”
During his 20-year career, Allison has been a part of multiple district championships and successful programs. While at Northwest, Allison and the Texans have won three district titles and posted three 10-win seasons, including helping guide the team to their first playoff win in school history during his tenure. As recruiting coordinator, he also helped dozens of his student-athletes find opportunities to play in college and navigate the college recruiting process. In his time at San Angelo Central as the co-defensive coordinator, the Bobcats won 10 games for the first time in 20 years and advanced to the postseason. As the defensive coordinator at Sharpstown, he helped the team snap a 29-game losing streak and go 6-4 in his first season.
“Coach Allison is a tremendous leader and coach who comes highly recommended from some of the top coaches in the state,” GISD Superintendent Dr. Jeremy Glenn said. “We are excited about the future of the Granbury football program under Coach Allison’s direction and know he will be a great asset to our district, the student-athletes, and the community.”
Allison was named the Northwest ISD Assistant Coach of the Year in 2016-17 and the Built by Nature Assistant Coach of the Week in 2016. In addition to football, Allison has also coached Track & Field and had an individual discus state champion. He has taught history throughout his public education career and has most recently been the Physical Education Department Head at Northwest High School.
Allison earned his Bachelor of Science from Angelo State University and a Master of Education from the University of Missouri. He and his wife, April, have two daughters, Avery and Layla.
