December Board Meeting Achievement Spotlights and events

At last night’s monthly board meeting, the following were recognized with Achievement Spotlights along with notable events:

- Swearing in newly elected trustees Mike Moore (Place 1) and Nancy Alana (Place 2).

- Recognizing outgoing and retiring board president Dr. Barbara Herrington for her 18 years as a GISD School Board trustee.

- Reorganizing of the board: Barbara Townsend, President; Courtney Gore, Vice President; Billy Wimberly, Secretary.

- Baccus Elementary performed the Pledges at the meeting, let by students Izzy Maness, Louella Watts and Principal Julie Rohleder.

- GHS Junior Optimist Club Officers: Lilly McCoy, Lila Manning, Pooja Vitthalpura, Addison Mallory, Jocelyn Berry, Quinn King, Ana Torres and Maggie Diamondson along with Junior Optimist advisor Houcine Chraibi. The Junior Optimist Club was recognized Internationally for receiving 1st Place Club Service Project. Every year, the Junior Optimist Club recognizes clubs for their service. The Junior Optimist Club International is a youth organization for students up to 18 years old and there are 15,000 members globally. Granbury High School is one of the fast-growing clubs in the nation.

- GHS Seriously Smokin’ BBQ Team consisting of Maria Marez, Emery Kirby, Rayleigh Langdon and Noe Puente along with Culinary Arts Teacher Brianne Langdon were recognized for their performances at cooking competitions this year. The GHS Culinary Program was also presented with a $5,000 check from Homer Robertson of the Texas Cowboy Symposium.

- Shottenkirk Senior of the Month: Jocelyn Dominguez. Shottenkirk Automotive Group awarded Jocelyn with a $500 scholarship. Jocelyn loves art and plans to attend Tarleton State University to become an art teacher. Jocelyn is part of clubs at GHS like soccer management, Jr. Optimist, and Key Club.

- Brawner Teachers receive Dual Language Exemplary and Honorable Mention status: Veronica Barragan (Exemplary), Mary Hernandez (Honorable Mention) and Karina Rodriguez (Honorable Mention). Dual Language Consultants recently made their annual visit to Brawner and received outstanding reviews, with an Exemplary rating not coming very often. The teachers must implement all aspects of the Dual Language model with fidelity. On top of the recognition, the three Brawner teachers were chosen to present at the National Best Practices Conference.

- Granbury ISD Education Foundation honored for reaching $1 Million in funds given back to GISD. In attendance were GEF Board Members Stacy Mitchell, Nancy Alana, Heather Bufkin, Julie Clark, Teena Conway, Menielle Donahoo, Sara Galvan, Randy Leach, Holly Martin, Lisa Perigrino , Barbara Townsend, Ann VanDuzee.
