Granbury ISD officially announced on April 22 the appointment of Jeremy McFerrin as the head boys’ basketball coach at Granbury High School. McFerrin comes to Granbury from Plano West High School where he held the same role since 2021.
McFerrin takes over for David Breazeale, who announced his retirement after 14 seasons leading the Pirates. McFerrin has 13 years of experience as a basketball head coach, with stops at Plano West, Lubbock Monterey, and Trinity Christian-Lubbock. He also coached at the collegiate level at South Plains College and Texas Tech.
"I'd like to thank Dr. Jeremy Glenn, Coach Lamont Moore and the Granbury ISD Board of Trustees for this opportunity to become the head coach of the Granbury Pirates. My family and I are excited about joining Granbury ISD and I cannot wait to lead these great young men," McFerrin said.
During his career, McFerrin has led his teams to 10 playoff appearances, five district championships, a private school state championship and a career record of 300-169. In his three years at Plano West, he led the Wolves to a 20-win season in 2023-24 and increased the school’s win total in every season. While at Lubbock Monterey, he made the postseason all four years, highlighted by a 29-9 record in 2018-19 where coached his team to the 5A regional tournament. McFerrin was later named the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches (TABC) 5A Outstanding Coach of the Year in 2019. At the private school level as athletic director and head basketball coach, McFerrin guided Trinity Christian-Lubbock to a Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools 4A state championship in 2017. He was a two-time TABC coach of the year in 2016 and 2017 while at Trinity Christian.
McFerrin got his coaching career started in west Texas as an assistant women’s basketball coach for South Plains College where they were WJCAC Champions and Region V runners-up. He was also a graduate assistant coach for Texas Tech women’s basketball from 2005-07.
“Coach McFerrin is a tremendous basketball coach that we are excited to welcome him and his family to Granbury,” said Director of Athletics Lamont Moore. “We are looking forward to the future of the Pirate basketball program under his leadership.”
McFerrin earned Bachelor of Science and Master of Science from Texas Tech University. He and his wife, Becca, have four children: Jett (10th grade), Brecklyn (8th grade), Jacoby (4th grade), and Ella (3rd grade).
There will be a Meet and Greet event with Coach McFerrin on Tuesday, April 30 at 6 p.m. in the James Wann Sports Center.
