GHS Robotics narrowly misses finals, places third at the World/National VEX Robotics Competition

Granbury High School JROTC teams recently showcased their dedication at the prestigious VEX Robotics Worlds/National Championship. This event, held on April 27-30, 2024, at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center in Dallas, marked the third consecutive year of Granbury MCJROTC's participation in VEX Worlds/Nationals.

The competition featured two teams from Granbury JROTC: Team 11775A, consisting of Zachary Layland, Marcus Hadaway, Rhyan Obina, and Renee Sermarini; and Team 11775B, consisting of Matthew Wilson, Dalton Weddle, and Braden Seaborne.

After a week of intense competition, Team 11775A's undefeated streak led them to the finals, where they secured an impressive 3rd place out of 180 teams from other services. Meanwhile, Team 11775 B's outstanding performance earned them the prestigious National Inspire Award, a testament to their exceptional leadership and creativity in the robotics community.

Lt. Col. Scott Casey, the Senior Marine Instructor, praised both teams for their hard work and dedication, noting that it was a challenging competition that required every point to be fought for. He also acknowledged the leadership of the senior members of the teams and the contributions of student ambassador Marcus Hadaway, who greeted and escorted VIP guests from Google, Space X, Northrup Grumman, Tesla, and other companies.

Finally, Lt. Col. Casey expressed his gratitude to Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Hunsinger for mentoring the JROTC robotics teams throughout the year.
