GHS MCJROTC selected as a Naval Honor School for the 11th consecutive year

Granbury High School MCJROTC has been selected as a Naval Honor School for the 11th consecutive year.

For the past eleven years, Granbury Battalion has been recognized as a Naval Honor School by the Commanding General of Marine Corps Training and Education Command. The school's Marine Corps JROTC program ranks in the top 10 percent of all 70 MCJROTC programs in Region 5. Various factors are considered to qualify for this award, including community service hours, cadet involvement in school activities and clubs, academic and scholarship awards, public affairs events, and team accomplishments.

This year, GHS MCJROTC, as a Naval Honor School, has the privilege of nominating candidates directly to the U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Air Force Academy, and the Military Academy at West Point. Seniors in the GHS JROTC program can receive letters of recommendation from 1stSgt and LtCol Scott Casey, which carry the same weight as those from state senators or congressmen.

The GHS MCJROTC program has achieved remarkable success thanks to the dedicated participation of the cadets, parents, faculty, and the community of Granbury. Four teams from GHS MCJROTC gained state and national recognition by winning the National JROTC Rifle Championship, competing and placing in the Robotics World and Nationals. The Academic Team placed at the National Level during the JROTC Leadership & Academic Bowl in Washington, D.C. Other notable accomplishments from the 2023-24 school year include our senior cadets being awarded more than 1.3 million dollars in scholarships. Five seniors have enlisted in the Marine Corps and one in the U.S. Army. Our former battalion, SgtMaj, is attending the United States Naval Academy and was awarded a Navy (Marine Option) Scholarship. Two seniors received scholarships to shoot on an NCAA college rifle team at the University of Texas at El Paso. Several of our rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors were selected for summer leadership and academic camps such as Texas Boys State, Texas Girls State, MOWW Youth Leadership Conference, Rotary Youth Leadership Awards, Naval Academy Summer Seminar, HOBY Youth Leadership Camp, West Point STEM Camp, and the Dedalian Flight Training Program, to mention a few.
