About HB4545
House Bill 4545 (HB4545) became law in June 2021 to replace retention of students who did not meet standard on the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) or STAAR End-of-Course (EOC) exams and instead allowed for extra tutoring and support. Now that the law no longer requires students to be held back based on their assessment scores, students in 3rd, 5th, and 8th grade who did not meet standard in math or reading will have customized educational plans to support their success in the following year.
Additionally, all students who did not meet standard on their STAAR/EOC assessments will receive a minimum of 30 hours of supplemental instruction in small groups. Students will receive this instruction during school when they are not receiving new instruction in the classroom or participating in electives. This includes students who did not take the STAAR/EOC exam.
TEA: Support to Help Ensure Your Child is On Track This School Year
State Law (House Bill 4545) requires school districts to provide accelerated instruction for students who do not pass the State of Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness (STAAR) each year.
To address HB4545 Accelerated Instruction, Granbury ISD will be providing accelerated instruction throughout the school year, and/or in summer school for any STAAR or EOC exam that a student did not pass.
This accelerated intervention may be provided in one or more of the following options:
- Tutoring
- Acceleration time in campus schedule (Pirate Time, Advisory Class, Family Time, etc.)
- Small group instruction
- Summer School (Hours earned during summer school will carry over into the current school year.)
The campus Accelerated Learning Committee (ALC) will select the best possible format of intervention for your child. The committee will also monitor your child’s academic success and notify you about his/her progress. By working together, we can help your child gain the necessary knowledge and skills to be successful in his/her academic mastery of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS), as well as future assessments.
*There is not an opt-out for accelerated instruction required under HB4545. Accelerated Instruction and any associated tutoring that districts are implementing to meet HB4545 requirements are subject to the compulsory attendance requirements of TEC, §25.085, and should be treated like any other required instructional time during the school day.*
