Area Spelling Bee - February 13, 2014

Tiffany Wynne, a sixth grader at Acton Middle School, won the 2013 Area Spelling Bee held February 13, 2014.

This was the second straight victory for Wynne, who won last year as a fifth grader at Acton Elementary School.

The area contest pitted campus-level winners from seven Granbury campuses. Wynne and Lauren Aramburu, a fifth grader at Oak Woods School, battled for 22 rounds before she emerged the victor.

Other competitors were: Spencer Burnfield, a third grader at Acton Elementary School; Averie Coffman, a third grader at Brawner Intermediate School; Rebecca Dunn, a fifth grader a Mambrino School; Billy Hafford, a fourth grader at Nettie Baccus Elementary School; Leslie Price, eighth grader at Granbury Middle School.

As the Hood County area champion, Wynne will advance to the Star-Telegram Regional Spelling Bee scheduled for March 19 at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth. That contest will feature more than thirty contestants who won at the area level. The regional winner will have an opportunity to compete at the national competition to be held in Washington, D.C. in May.

The campus and district spelling bees were open to all students under the age of sixteen who had not passed beyond the eighth grade.
