Area Spelling Bee - February 13, 2013

Tiffany Wynne, a fifth grader at Acton Elementary School, won the 2013 Area Spelling Bee held February 13, 2013.

The contest pitted campus-level winners from seven Granbury campuses. Wynne and Alexander Call, a third grader at Oak Woods School, battled for twenty-one rounds before she emerged the victor.

Other competitors were: Landree Childes, sixth grader at Acton Middle School; Jaden Couto, fifth grader at Brawner Intermediate School; Tyler Ellis, fourth grader at Baccus Elementary School; Brooke Parsons, third grader at Mambrino School; and Daniel Shelton, eighth grader at Granbury Middle School.

As the Hood County area champion, Wynne will advance to the Star-Telegram Regional Spelling Bee scheduled for March 20 at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth. That contest will feature more than thirty contestants who won at the area level. The regional winner will have an opportunity to compete at the national competition to be held in Washington, D.C. in May.

The campus and district spelling bees were open to all students under the age of sixteen who had not passed beyond the eighth grade.
