New Book Acquisitions
Step 1: Book Selections
Campus librarians will initiate book selection requests based on criteria set in District policy.
Each item selected shall:
- Support and enrich the curriculum and/or students’ personal interests and learning;
- Demonstrate literary merit, quality, value, and significance.
- Be appropriate for the subject area and for the age, intellectual development, and ability level of the students for whom the materials are selected;
- For nonfiction resources, incorporate accurate and authentic factual content from authoritative sources;
- Earn favorable reviews in standard reviewing sources and/or favorable recommendations based on preview and examination of materials by professional personnel.
- Provide a wide range of background information that will enable students to think critically and make informed decisions.
- If narrative nonfiction, present information with the greatest degree of accuracy and clarity.
- Reflect the interests and needs of the students and faculty.
- Represent diverse viewpoints and cultures in campus collections to reflect the unique background of its student population.
Step 2: Selection Approval
Campus librarians will submit library selection requests to the district librarian for approval.
Step 3: Selection Preview
Once selections are approved by the district librarian, selection lists will be posted at this location on the district website for a 10-day preview.
